The Aradhane of great saint Sri Vijayindra Tirtha  is celebrated all over our Bharatha desha especially at his moola brindhavana which is situated at punya sthala ‘Kumbakonam’.This year his aradhane is celebrated on 28,29(Madhya)&30 of June month. The  below article is taken from various sources(my guru’s write up on Gurugunastavana,dvaita.org&from the book of Sri T.S.R)

Sri Vijayîndra Tîrtha was a `sarva-tantra-swatantra’, a master of the sixty-four arts, a winsome and magnetic personality, and the author of over a hundred works (104 are attributed to him). Born by the grace of Sri Vyaasa Tiirtha in 1517, Sri Vijayiindra Tiirtha got his education from Sri Vyaasa Tiirtha. The saint was then gifted by Sri Vyaasa Tiirtha to Sri Surendra Tiirtha, ruled the throne of Srimad Acharya, served his guru Sri Surendra Tiirtha, showed many great miracles, won many scholars which proved that he was undoubtedly victorious(Ajeya).
Sri Vadindra Tirtha extols Sri Swamiji in his work called Gurugunastavana in the 8th sloka(see below),which has been published in our blog as series.

Meaning:
The poet proceeds to offer obeisances to the Chatushashtih Kalaa Purna, Sri Vijayeendraru. Sri Vijayeendra tirtha who has to his credit one hundred and four wonderful books which are effective in opposing other shastras and establishing Tatvavada, who is a master of the sixty four arts like music, crafts, dance, idol making and the like, who staunchly opposed the Saiva and Advaita religions, who suceeded to the pontificate after Sri Surendra tirtha, who is a sarva tantra svatanra (do not need external help to know other sidhantaas) and famous in the three worlds, may be pleased to take care of us.

It is said that the Saint used to carve within half an hour a Udupi Krishna idol and present it to some lucky devotee. The Saint had written 104 works superseding Appayya Diskhitar who had written 103 works. Here the ashrama guru of the Saint, Sri Surendra tirtha who was known for his penance and Bhoo pradakshina is very much honoured.
The verse is decorated by Roopalankaara while describing the Chaaturyaa of Sri Vijayeendra tirtha and the metre is Sraghdara metre.

Stotra:
72. shrI nR^isiMha stutiH
73. vyAsarAjastotram.h

“pApavimochana stotram.h” was composed by Shri VijayindratIrtha.
This is also known as “duritApahAra stotram.h”.

This is a very good example to show that the contents of the Mangalacharana shloka-s and/or this kind of stotra-s [such as
“I commit multitude of sins every yAma(duration of three hours”)] do not apply to the great yati-s, who compose these and as such these should not be used to assess their svarUpa-s. They are applicable to common people like us for whose sake they compose these. The same guideline should be used when discussing sensitive issues of such kind.

“Om Namo Vijayindraya ithyastakshara mantrathaha jathyathe bhavyathe vaapi yene’shtaartha siddhayae” -the one who does japa of 8 letters mantra”Om Sri Vijayindraaya”, that person will obtain all benefits and will be ever happy

  1. Hello Venkatesh,
You are doing an amazing job in terms of your blog and Thanks for the same. I also noticed that on this page in the “CHARAMA SLOKA”, the english version is slightly different from the Sanskrit version. In the second line in English it says “Vijayindra Gurave” but in Hindi it is “Jayindra Gurave”. I would request you to correct the same accordingly. According to me its the Hindi Version which is correct.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Deepak N
