Sri Vadirajaru – An Avatar of Sri Laatavya

 

From Vyoma Samhita:

Sanjarbhuraana sooktena laatavyo hi sureshwaraha
geeyate rujugaathosau vaadiraajo mahaan yathihi ||
 
The moola rupa of Laatavya is present outside Brahmaanda and is always meditating on Narayana.  The first rupa of laatavya is present in satya loka (abode of Brahma) with the same name. In satyaloka, he is acharya for devataas like Garuda,Shesha,Rudra,Indra etc.He has equal gyaana of Narayana when compared to Brahma and Vaayu.Garuda,Padma,Skanda,Vaaman,Brahmavaivarta puraans speak about the incarnation of Laatavya.
 

Proofs from various Puranas:

 

From Brahma Vaivarta Puraanam:

“Vyasa sevaarato nityam vaadiraajo Rujurryatihi Durvaadaan parimathyashu matpadam yaatumarhati sthaapayishyati Machaashtram tena Bhaveeddivaha”

Meaning: “Always in the service of Vedavyasa, Vaadirajateertha who is a Ruju Ganastha will defeat all incorrect philosophies and willreach my postion. He will establish the philosophy of maadhwa and will cause kshema to everyone.”
So says Brahma in Brahma Vaivarta Puraanam

 

From  Padma Puraanam:

“tam madhwam maarutam sarve parivaarataya sadaa samsevitum suraa bhoomavavateerna iti shrutam te tu tachhishyataamaapya tanmantam tu vyaghoshanam yeshu mukhyau vishnuteertha padmanaabhaakhya yoginau antakdehastatraaghyastamantam vartaishyati tatpoorvamasya vamshe tu rujustho hu sureshwaraha Vaadiraajo Yatirbhootwa Chaitadwistaaraishyati”

Meaning:”When Vayu ( maaruti) incarnates as Madhwa, all gods would incarnate in his lineage to protect the philosophy propunded by him. Main among them would be Vishnu teertha and padmanaabha teertha. Vishnuteertha would involve in penance without leaving his deha and would rejuvinate maadhwa mata. Rujudevata Sureshwara( Laatavya is referred as Sureshwara in Vedas ) will be born in his lineage and would spread the philosophy of maadhwa.”


One can get a doubt that , in the above sloka of Padma Puraana, the word “Sureshwara” is used for Vaadirajaru.Explanation for this is as below

 

Sattattwa Vachanam

Manyurindro manuhu somo bhaavi-madhwaha sureshwaraha
laatavyo vaadiraajosau kuvidangashrutho shrutaha

Meaning — “Manyu , Indra , manu , Soma , Bhaavi Madhwa , sureshwara are all names of Laatavya who is Vaadiraja Teertharu and who is Kuvidanga Shruta”


Explanation –
1.MAnyu , Manu , Soma are names of laatavya
2.He is also called Indra as he is a Ruju and heads the devatas.Also he is going to occupy the Indra padavi by the name of Rochaka just like Vayu did.
3.Since he is laatavya , he is Bhaavi Madhwa.
4.A mantra called “kuvidanga namasa” in Rig veda , gives this information about laatavya. so he is called “Kuvidanga Shruta” ie mentioned in kuvidanga or praised by Kuvidanga.

 

From Vaamana Puraanam:

Aparoksha Visheshana samyutam brahmapoorvakaaha
kalkyantaa Rujawaha proktaa Praarabdhaphala bhoghinaha
BrahmaNo na avataarosti shatamadhye Paraajhaya
vaayu maaraabhya kalkyantaa jani-mantrotra Bhaarate
hanumd-bheema-madhwaakhya-roopo vaayurbhavishyati
swayamvarasamudhyoge rukminee-patra maadaraat
krushnaayaadaad gruheetvayo hyantaha puragato dwijaha
sarvaaddastadaivaayam Rujur-laatavya naamakaha
vaayu-sthaana samaaroha yogyoyam yatiroopavaan
aakaalpam braahmaNaha Krushnaprasaadasyaikabhaajanam
krushnaarchako yatirbhootvaa Vaadiraajo vadishyati
Shri Ruknineeshavijayam kalau KrushNaprasaadabhaak

Meaning:Except Brahma, all rujus will be born in Bharata to protect dharma.Vayu protects in the form of Hanuma ,Bheema ,MAdhwa. In his lineage comes the avatar of laatavya who was messenger of rukminee in his previous birth. It is he, who would incarnate as Vaadiraja yathi and compose rukmineesha Vijaya.

 

From Skanda Puraanam

Laatavyasya rujostasya kluptam pratiyugeyuge
vaayo: praveshaparyantamatra stithvaatha gachati
idam shareeram sampraapya laatavyo vaayutaamiyaat
tataha kaalaantare sopi vaadiraajo bhavishyati

Laatavya would incarnate in every yuga just like vayu does. He enters and leaves a body , along with vayu.This very laatavya would incarnate as Sri Vadiraja in future.
From the above ie Padma( satva purana) ,Vamana ( rajo purana) and Skanda ( tamasika purana) , pramanas have been provided regarding Rujutwa of Vaadirajaru.



Apart from these Shri Sudheendra Teertharu , Guru of Shri Raghavendra Swamy has written a stotra on Vaadirajaru where he affirms that he is guru of all gurus and devatas and is a Ruju. Sri Satyadharma Teertharu of Uttaradi Mutt has also written a stotra on Vaadirajaru where he says Rajaru is “ASAMA SAMA” ie who is equal to asama. 

 

“ASAMA”is a wordwhich i referred for Vayu.
Sanjarbhuraana Sookta of Rigveda also establishes the avatara of laatavya as Vaadirajaru just like balitha sookta refers to avatar of Vayu as Maadhwacharya. Gurudevaarpanam astu Vaadiraja Gurubhyonnamaha

  1. Today, I got a link from my friend which attached the speech of UM HH Sathyathma theertharu, refuting all the claims of Vadiraja Rujuthwa. I was perplexed. Can anybody clarify with compelling conviction on the points raised by HH Sathyatmatheertharu on vadiraja Rujutwha, HH claims that Swapnavrindavanakyana cannot be accepted as pramana, All purnanic pramanas were unambiguously discarded as insertions, All Dasasahitya on this subject, are claimed to be manipulations in their names. Additionally he professes that Asathvik chintana damns us to hell. Any Gnani’s clarification for his speech would be highly appreciated.This will quell the turmoil in our minds which as tormented us.

      I need not be a jnani to answer you; any belief in certain section of Madhvas is Aptavakya to them; others may differ if they dont believe same source! Even Swamijis are not exception to this! This is a baseless stand of a partcular Mutt. if you believe there is no harm as Vadirajaru is really a great Guru!

I was celebrating every festival in my parents house . But after marriage , In my husband house , so many festivals are dropped because my mother in law dont no exactly about our vadiraj mutt festivals , But i am very interested in our madhwa religion and our festival. Can you please tell me about vadiraja mutt festival , I tried so many ways but I dint get correct information about vadiraja mutt festivals , Please help me about this. I want detail information . I am waiting .

Indeed it is an excellent article,Though the general saying was Sri Vadhirajaru,belsy about it ,between the Uttaradhi mutt Pundits & Sode Vadhiraja Mutt pundits,raised lot of doubts about sri Vadhiraja. Gurugalu. This Blog puts at rest to all these silly arguments.I & my family visited Sonda & had Darshan of this great guruji : It helped us a great deal in finding peace of mind : I recommend all jignasus to visit the Brindavan at Sonda///

    I Think there is an over look of a point mentioned in the paragraph ….

      That line means he (Rajaru) has equal jnana of Narayana(‘s attributes) when compared with Vayu and Brahma…

      To be more clear, purport being he has asked much knowledge of Narayan as much Brahma and Vayu has…

      To be further more clear,
      It’s not saying Latavya has jnana equal to Narayana, but Latavya has equal jnana *of Narayana* when compared with Brahma and Vayu…

    This is absolutely biased and false allegations, Vadirajaru is greatest saint but he is not latavya/Rujugalu. swapna vrundavanakhyana is the only book written by Vadirajaru? in other literatures Vadirajaru never ever mentioned that i’m Ruju, only in swapna brundavana vakhyana it was there , that to somebody was added this slokas. lets assume Vadirajaru is Rujugalu then how come vaidarajaru do mangalacharana slokas when he writes every grantha? Bhavisameera/ rujugalu never praise other than lord srihari. there are cases where Madhwacharyaru has also given namaskara to his below kaksha, but he never praised any of his mangalacharana slokas exept Lord narayana. there is no nessasity of seeking the belssings of all nadhyabhimani devatas, guru’s and many times vadirajaru mentioned teekarayaru is my whole and sole. then how will you claim Vadirajaru is Rujugalu.. I have hundreds of examples to prove… i’m not here to condemn Vadirajaru, he is special in madhwa philosophy. there is great respect towards him. Vadiraja gurvantargata teekakrutpada gurvantargata bharatiramana mukhya pranantaragat shree laxmi venkteshaya namaha
