“Vyasaaya Bhavanaasaaya Srishaaya Gunarashaye | Hrdyaya Shudhavidhyaya Madhvayacha Namo Namaha”
Namaskara to Lord Sri Veda vyasa(Sriman Narayana), husband of Mahalakshmi who is filled with infinite auspicious qualities. Namaskara to beautiful saint who has full of knowledge, who has all the lakshanas in full none other than Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya — Sri Vadiraja Tirtha in his magnum opus work “Yukthi Mallika”

Namaskara Satvik Jeevas,
With the divine blessings of Lord Sri Hayavadhana I would like to present Part 8 of this series on great saint Sri Vadirajaru to the truth seekers. As we have seen in our earlier article[please click hereif you have not yet read] Sri Sri Vadirajaru visited Rameshwaram and did namaskara to Rudra devaru. In previous article our Rajaru beautifully gives explanation for the reason of Lord Sri Rama’s installation of Sri Rudra at Rameshwaram. Do read the previous article if you have missed it. HIS holiness further visits Sri Ramapadha, Dhanuskodi and reaches Madurai to do sastaanga namaskara to Sri Harih at Vrushabashala(Alagarkoil).
Sri Rajaru has given us important information about the mahatva of this place in HIS famous work called ‘Tirthaprabhandha’.His holiness has written two slokas one about the Lord Sri Sundarajan(Sriman Narayana) and another one narrating the greatness of Nupura Ganga Tirtha which was originated from the lotus feet(Ankle bells) of Lord Sri Harih.

About Alagarkoil[Vrushabashala]
Alagarkoil is situated about 20 Kms from Madurai. Lord at this place is called as “Sri Sundararajar”. Rajaru explains the mahime of this auspicious place. His holiness says that Sri Yamadharma did thapas at this place meditating on Lord Sri Harih {in Vrushaba roopa} and as a result of Dharma’s bhakthi Lord appeared before him and did anugraha/blessings to him. This place has proved that Yamadharma is a dasa of Lord Sri Harih. Rajaru prays Lord Sri Harih to bestow Moksha{Sreyaeshath} to all his devotees. His holiness also adds that Sri Harih is looking like a shinning moon who only can remove all our samsara bandha.

Noopura Ganga:
Holy Noopura Ganga is the Tirtha which is situated near the temple Shrine. Rajaru says that this Tirtha was generated from the Ankle bells(Kal salangai in Tamil) of Lord Sri Harih. If we see the meaning of the word ‘Noopura’ in samskrita it means an Ornament of Ankles. Hence the name has been given to the holy tirtha.  Rajaru prays Noopura Gangadevi to remove all our Sins and decorate our manas(heart). Tatparya, His holiness prays Ganga devi for benefit of us to remove all our Sins and keep our heart pure in order to generate bhakthi on Lord Sri Harih which would result in Aproksha gyana with Moksha. Please note Rajaru is an Ruju yogi who doesnt have any sins. This prayer is for welfare of sinful persons like us who are suffering in Kaly yuga with kaly pravesha. By praying to saints like Sri Vadirajaru, Sri Raghavendra Swamy (& all Dvaita saints) we would attain the blessings of Lord Sri Harih Vayu and there is no doubt in that.

Reference about this place in Puranas:
Holy place Alagarkoil Sri Sundaraja Perumal along with Noopura Ganga tirtha have been mentioned in various Puranas like Vamana Purana, Varaha Purana, Agni Purana and Brahmanda Purana.

Sri Raghavendra Swamy at Madurai – the most memorable & interesting incident
The place is Madurai, the ruler was Tirumalai Naicker and the Minister was a great scholar called Neelakanta Dikshitar, who comes from the lineage of Sri Appaya Dikshitar(who was contemporary to Ajaya Sri Vijayindra Swamiji]. Sri Sri Raghavendra Swamiji in the course of his divine sojourn comes to Madurai where he happens to debate with Neelakant Dikshitar.  Neelakant Dikshitar accepted the defeat after the debate with Sri Raghavendra Swamiji and after going through one of Sri Raghavendra Swamiji’s works called ‘Bhatta Sangraha’ Dikshitar was highly impressed by the work and as a respect he placed the work on an Elephant and took it in a big procession throughout the streets of Madurai.  Sri Vadindraru wonderfully completes by opining “the fame of Your Holiness also spread all over the eight directions like how the glory of the book is spread”.
