Namaskara Readers,

I had divine bhagya to yatra Srimushnam Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy on 01-12-2013 and enjoyed great experience. Lord is standing in a beautiful posture and blesses all of us. This place has special taste because of presence of both Lord Sri Harih and Sri Madhvacharya(in the roopa of Danda Tirtha). This place also has significant importance due to foot prints of various Madhva saints including Sri Vyasa Tirtha, Sri Vadiraja Tirtha, Sri Kambalu Ramachandra Tirtha & Sri Raghavendra Swamy. It is said Sri Raghavendra Swamy stayed here for a long time and did patta pravachane to his shishyas.

In this article I would like to bring out the mahima of Srimushnam Kshtetra as per my knowledge/yogyata. I would also like to include our series on Sri Vadiraja Tirtha in this article, who did dharshan of Lord and given us beautiful narration of Lord’s beauty which will be enjoyed below.

About Lord Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy & mahima of Srimushnam Kshetra:
Srimushnam Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy is one of the svayam vyaktha Ksetra similar to Tirumala,SrirangamDwaraka,Mathura etc. As per Varaha Purana Lord Sriman Narayanaa took avatara at this place only.  Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya did chaturmasya anusthana at this same place and created ‘Danda Tirtha’ for welfare of people who were suffering from Water shortage. Most of the holy Madhva Saints camped at this place and have had been doing stapane of Sri Madhva philosophy. Sri Kambalu Ramachandra Tirtha did installation of Lord Sri Lakshmi NArasimha,Sri Bhu Varaha, Sri Hanuma/Bheema/Madhva & Garuda below the Aswatha vruksha tree(near Swami Pushkarani Tank) and his holiness generation still continue to do pooja as per Dvaita philosophy.

As per Narada Purana, Lord Sriman Narayana stayed at place called ‘Srimushnam’ and brought back the Earth from asuras and killed Hiranyaksha as per prayers of Devatas. Holy bath at Nithya Pushkarini and Danda Tirtha would remove one’s sins as per Puranic texts.

Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya has quoted the importance of Gyana Rupi Paramatma ‘Sri Varaha’ in most of his holiness works including his gigantic Tatparya Nirnaya, Dwadasa stotra etc.Lord who has uttama roopa/Gyana Swaroopi has taken avatara to save earth and to kill Hiranyaksha.
The word ‘Mahavaraha’ comes as 545th nama of Lord Sriman Narayana in Vishnusahashranama stotra.  The one who protects every human being is the right meaning. Another name is ‘Mahidara’ – the one who lifted the earth and saved the sajjanas.  Chanting “Mahavaraha Sahashranama stotra’ from Skanda Purana brings blessings from Lord, the one who will remove all our Sins.

Aswatha Narayana Swamy: 

Lord Sri Harih is in the form of Aswatha Tree. When viewed this tree from a long distance it will look like picture no 1. i.,e the tree will look like the shape of Lord Sri Bhu Varaha by itself. It is said Lord while taking the avatara as Varaha was first appeared in this sacred tree then he sat at the temple.  Importance of Aswatha tree: This tree is also called as “Aswatha Narayana Swamy”. If a person goes round this tree 7/9/11 times with sincere bhakthi his sins will get removed completely. If Unmarried then he/she will get married, If couple dont have children will get beautiful child, if there is a loss in business/professional life will become wealthy. All will come only when he/she goes around and prays Lord Sri Narayana(Bhu Varaha) through Sri Vayu with complete Bhakthi. All kind of navagraha doshas will get parihara if one goes around this sacred tree. It is the truth and there is no doubt in that.

As said before, the great saint Sri Kambalu Ramachandra Tirtha did installation of Lord, Vayu bhagvan and Garuda below in between this sacred tree. Sacred Danda Tirtha:

Danda Tirtha or Venu Tirtha has been mentioned in most the puranas and its mentioned that Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya visited Srimushnam and had dharshan of Lord Sri Bhu Varaha and stayed for Chaturmasya. The surrounding village was once suffering from scarcity of water problem and it is Sri Vayu bhagvan who took compassion on a pregnant woman and village people created holy tirtha from his Danda(stick) and hence its named as ‘Danda Tirtha’. Till date the water has not gone dry, it is because of presence of Sri Vayu (Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya and Lord). When I personally enquired the villagers during my last trip on December 1st 2013 all the villagers told me the same thing which they have heard from their grandparents. Such is the greatness of this sacred tank.

Sri Bhu Varaha and Lord Sri Bhu Varaha? 
I hope we are confused with the title. There is one common thing about Lord Sri Bhuvaraha at Srimushnam and our Vadiraja Tirtha.Yes,  its the name. 🙂 Sri Vadiraja Tirtha’s poorvashrama name was ‘Sri Bhuvaraha’.  (Readers, please go quickly and go through this post:Click here and come back to know more.) Boovaraha was excelled in the studies of Dvaita vedanta from the young age of ‘5’.

With the divine blessings of Lord Sri Hayavadhana I would like to present Part 9 of this series on great saint Sri Vadirajaru to the truth seekers. As we have seen in our earlier article[please click here if you have not yet read] Sri Sri Vadiraja Tirtha visited Alagarkoil,Madurai and had dharshan of Lord Sri Harih(Kalalagar).  Sri Vadirajaru later visited Lord Sri Bhuvaraha at Srimushnam which will be covered in this article.
Sri Vadiraja Tirtha Mahan has written about Lord BhuVaraha in most of his works Sarasa Bharathi Vilasa, Tirtha Prabhandha,Sri Varaha Hayagriva Stotram,Sri Dasavatara Sthuthi,Sri Varaha Panchakam etc. We are now going to see about his holiness explanation about Sri Bhu Varaha from Tirtha Prabhandha.

Vadiraja Tirtha says, O Lord Sri Bhuvaraha(Sri Harih) the Supreme being, you are the one who has White body which has Strong pleasant Teeth which had torn off Hiranyaksha and saved the entire Jagath. His holiness also says, It is possible only for Lord Sri Varaha Swamin to bless us with happiness and Janana. Lord Sri Harih at Srimushnam has main sevaka Sri Bhudevi with him always, hence the name “Bhu (Bhudevi)- Varaha”. The mahima of Srimushnam Kshetra has been mentioned in NaradaPurana, Varaha Purana, Skanda Puranam & Brahmanda Purana etc.
